Community-level understanding of climate change and its causes and consequences is vital for disaster risk management at the local level. However, unfortunately, there was a lack of good source material on the definition and the factors involved in climate change in Pakistan. PDI, jointly with Oxfam GB, decided to prepare booklets on climate change in Pakistan’s leading languages and largely publish and disseminate those books. Under the PDI program on climate change and disaster risk management, books on climate change were published in Urdu, Sindhi, Brahui, Balochi, and Saraiki languages of Pakistan.
These books were written for the local level activists and the local communities in simple language. The books discuss the definition of climate change, its causes, and its consequences. Several case studies are included in the books to ensure that the local communities become aware of the relationship between climate change with the onslaught of disasters at the local level in their communities and regions. In the end, the books carry several practical community-based solutions to mitigate the impacts of climate change and prevent disasters at the community level.
