Community-based disaster risk management (CBDRM) is an approach that reduces vulnerabilities. It strengthens people’s capacity to cope with hazards, which seeks to: reduce vulnerabilities and increase the capacities of vulnerable groups and communities to cope with, prevent, or minimize loss and damage to life, property, and the environment, minimize human suffering and hasten recovery.
PDI strongly believes in the community-based disaster risk management framework for reducing disaster risks. Under its climate change and disaster risk management program, PDI decided to prepare this handbook for the field practitioners in disaster risk management.
The booklet discusses n detail the community-based disaster risk management framework and different approaches to adopting this framework. The Publication includes modules for learners to learn CBDRM and practical experiences, enabling them to transfer knowledge to action.
