Islamabad (January 17-18, 2015) Leading international and national linguists and experts have declared Brahui Language of Balochistan is one of the ancient languages of the world .Terming it as mother language of 7000 years old Dravidian Languages of Indus civilization the researcher scholars emphasized on further research on the origin of Brahui language which according to them would help in resolving the question of the languages of Mohen Jo Daro, Harapa and Mehrgarah civilizations.
This was declared in the two –days “International Conference on Brahui Language and Culture” in the main auditorium of Allama Iqbal Open University Islamabad on Saturday. The conference was organized jointly by Participatory Development Initiatives (PDI), Brahui Academy Pakistan Allama Iqbal Open University and Sughar Empowerment Society (SES). A number of research scholars from USA, Spain, Germany, Iraq, Mexico and other countries of the world and renowned research scholars and linguists of Pakistan presented their papers in the conference. The first day of the conference was inaugurated by Chief Guest Nawabzada Haji Lashkari Khan Raisani. Dr. Prof. Shahid Siddiqui Vice Chancellor Allama Iqbal Open University presided over the session. Balochistan Chief Minister Dr. Abdul Malik Baloch was the chief guest on the second day of the conference. The experts who presented their papers and chaired different sessions of the conference included leading linguist from USA Dr. Elena Bashir, Leading Pakistani linguist Dr. Tariq Rahman, Dr. Joan LG Baart, Dr. Abdullah Jan Head of the Department of Pakistani Languages, AIOU, Prof. Sosan Brahui, Prof. Khuda-e-Dad Gul, Abdul Qayum Bedar , Dr. Hakim Ali Burero, Dr. Abdul Wajid Tabasum, Professor Dr. Liquat Sani, Professor Dr. Mohammed Ashraf, Mir Ahmed Bux Lahri Member Federal Public Service Commission, Noor Ahmed Pirkani DG Quetta Development Authority, Nazeer Shakir Brahui, Sultan Ahmed Shahwani, Dr. Zia ur Rahman Baloch, Dr. Abdul Wajid Tabasum and others and others. The foreign scholars who could not travel to Pakistan and sent their papers for presentation included Dr. Jaroslave. Vacek Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic, Dr. Vikalp Kumar, Dr. Anand M Sharan, Memorial University of Newfoundland, Canada, Prof. Uma Maheshwar Rao Garapati and others. Their papers on Brahui language, its history and origins were presented in the conference.
Those who presented their papers on the second day of the conference included Dr. Allex Zeto from USA , Dr. Daniel Zapico from Mexico Dr. M. Sallahuddin Mengal Chairman Brahui Academy , Dr. Allah Bux Shakir, Prof. Naumatullah Soomro, Dr. Tajuddin Tajwar, Prof Ghulam Dastageer Sabir, Prof. Fareed Brohi, Dr. Seemi Naghmana Tahir, Haji Abdul Latif Bangulzai, Prof. Rauf Rafiqui, Dr, Zulfiqar Kalhoro, Noor Ahmed Pirkani and others.
While unanimously passing a number of resolutions the participants of the international conference demanded that all the indigenous languages of Pakistan including Brahui language should be declared as national languages of Pakistan and especially efforts should be made for their promotion. Brahui Language should be included in the Public Service [CSS] exams, an optional subject just like other national and international languages. Quid - e- Azam University and NUML University Islamabad should include Brahui language as a compulsory subject and should appoint lecturers for Brahui language. The Brahui programs that have been stopped being broadcasting from Radio Pakistan Quetta and Khuzdar should be restarted and increased. Brahui medium news should also be broadcasted from Radio Pakistan Islamabad. Brahui language programs that were being telecasted by Pakistan Television National Karachi are shut off, they should immediately be restarted again like the other language programs. Brahui language lecturers should be appointed for Balochistan colleges. Producers should be appointed for Radio Pakistan Quetta and Khuzdar. Brahui producers should be appointed in Pakistan Television Network.
